Punjab and Sindh Struggle with Intense Smog and Fog; Multiple Motorways Closed

Punjab and parts of Sindh are grappling with hazardous smog and fog conditions, with pollution levels reaching alarming highs. According to the Air Quality Index, Lahore has become one of the most polluted cities globally, with particulate meters reaching 790. Rahim Yar Khan was identified as the most polluted city in Pakistan, with 822 particulate meters recorded, while Lodhran and Faisalabad followed with 722 and 605, respectively.

The smog has severely impacted visibility in many areas, leading to significant disruptions. Motorways and highways in the region have been closed due to reduced visibility caused by the heavy fog and smog. Key motorways such as M2 (Lahore to Kot Momin), M3 (Lahore to Darkhana), M4 (Multan to Abdul Hakeem), and M5 (Multan to Zahir Peer) have been shut down to ensure the safety of travelers. Additionally, the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway has also been closed as visibility continues to deteriorate.

The hazardous air quality is a growing concern for residents, with health experts urging people to limit outdoor activities and take necessary precautions. The worsening situation highlights the ongoing environmental crisis in Pakistan, which has been exacerbated by factors such as industrial emissions, vehicular pollution, and climatic conditions.
