Punjab Deputy Speaker Orders Report on Alleged Arrests of Opposition Members

Deputy Speaker Iqbal directed Provincial Minister Bilal Akbar to submit a detailed written report to the Assembly so that members can be fully informed of the facts. He emphasized that the report should not be presented orally, highlighting the importance of a thorough and transparent account.

During the Assembly proceedings, opposition members raised concerns that party workers and some lawmakers were detained while welcoming CM Afridi. Responding to these allegations, Zaheer Iqbal stated that if verified, a full report would be called for, and no illegal action would be tolerated.

He underlined that opposition members and workers have the democratic right to welcome visiting dignitaries, and this right must not be denied. The Deputy Speaker further stressed that democratic values require tolerance of differing opinions, and all activities should operate within the boundaries of the law.

Zaheer Iqbal also appreciated the government’s initiative to honor CM Afridi as the guest of honor, noting that such steps promote inter-provincial harmony. He assured members that the protection of law, the Constitution, and democratic traditions in the Punjab Assembly will be maintained at all costs.
