During her visit to China, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif hosted an investment conference in Guangzhou, where she announced a new initiative aimed at facilitating Chinese companies interested in investing in Punjab. This initiative will feature a one-window operation system to streamline processes and ensure smooth collaboration between Chinese investors and the provincial government.

Investment Opportunities in Punjab

The conference, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was attended by representatives from over 60 prominent Chinese and Hong Kong companies across various sectors, including healthcare, artificial intelligence, agriculture, waste management, IT, solar energy, and more. During the conference, the Chief Minister highlighted Punjab as a “Land of Opportunity” for Chinese businesses, emphasizing the province's commitment to supporting foreign investment and technological innovation.

"Punjab is ready to welcome technology companies, and we are eager to begin operations in collaboration with them," said Maryam Nawaz, thanking the attendees for their interest and participation.

Environmental and Renewable Energy Initiatives

One of the key topics discussed was the Punjab government's ongoing environmental and energy projects. Chief Minister Nawaz introduced the province's "No to Plastic" campaign, which seeks to ban the production, sale, and use of plastic products that harm the environment.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the province's efforts to enhance waste management systems and convert waste into renewable energy, as part of the Shatra Punjab initiative. She highlighted Punjab's growing demand for solar energy and renewable sources, particularly windmills, as part of the provincial drive for clean and affordable energy.

Collaboration in Agriculture and IT

The conference also focused on how collaboration with Chinese firms could enhance Punjab's agricultural sector. Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized the potential for mechanization, food processing, and hybrid seed development, all of which would be facilitated by partnerships with Chinese companies. She also called for innovations in the IT sector, stressing the importance of e-commerce, incubator centers, and e-learning platforms for Punjab’s future.

"Bringing innovation to our IT sector is crucial, and we look forward to fostering investments that can help us build the IT City as a state-of-the-art hub," said Nawaz.

Chinese Investment Encouragement

Chinese companies expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s vision and the support for initiatives like the no-plastic campaign and waste-to-energy projects. The discussions also highlighted the mutually beneficial opportunities for investment and collaboration in fields that are crucial to both countries’ economic growth.

The province’s growing focus on innovation in various sectors presents a promising environment for Chinese investors, and the provincial government has expressed its commitment to supporting these collaborations to foster deeper Pak-China economic ties.
