The Punjab government has issued a new notification regarding the trial of 11 cases linked to the May 9 incidents, transferring them to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for further proceedings.
According to the notification released by the Punjab Home Ministry, all hearings related to the 11 May 9 cases will now take place in the ATC, and the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will be presented via video link instead of in person.
The notification also includes instructions for video link arrangements and enhanced security measures during the proceedings.
It may be recalled that the GHQ attack case—one of the prominent May 9 cases—is scheduled for hearing on November 5 in the Special Anti-Terrorism Court, where Judge Amjad Ali Shah will preside over the proceedings.
The PTI founder will be presented from Adiala Jail via video link for this hearing.
The May 9 cases stem from violent protests that erupted following the arrest of the PTI founder, resulting in attacks on military and government installations across the country.
The government’s move to consolidate and transfer these cases under the ATC framework indicates a tightening of the judicial process around the high-profile incidents.
