Saudi Arabia Sentences Former Public Security Chief to 20 Years for Bribery and Misappropriation

Saudi Arabia has sentenced Khalid bin Karr al-Harbi, the former chief of public security, to 20 years in prison for accepting bribes and misappropriating public funds. The court also ordered al-Harbi to return 584,000 riyals, which he was found to have illegally obtained, and imposed a fine of one million riyals.

Al-Harbi, who was appointed to his position in 2017, was investigated by the Saudi Anti-Corruption Agency after evidence surfaced of his involvement in corruption. Upon discovering the misconduct, he was retired from his position, and a thorough investigation was launched.

The case has been a significant focus of the Saudi government's ongoing anti-corruption campaign, which aims to tackle financial misdeeds within the public sector and restore public trust in government institutions. The severe sentence reflects the seriousness with which Saudi authorities are addressing corruption and serves as a warning to other officials.

The court's ruling underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to enforcing accountability and transparency within its ranks. The decision also highlights the government's broader efforts to combat corruption and maintain integrity in public office.
