The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday that security forces successfully foiled an attempt by militants to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing four terrorists, including a “high-value target,” TTP commander Amjad alias Mazahim.
According to the ISPR, troops monitoring the border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district detected the movement of a group of khwarij attempting to cross into Pakistan. “Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted khwarijs’ attempt to infiltrate. As a result of precise and skilful engagement, four khwarij, including their leader Amjad alias Mazahim, were sent to hell,” the statement said.
Mazahim was identified as the deputy of TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud and the head of the group’s Rehbari Shura — referred to by the state as part of the Indian proxy Fitna al-Khwarij. He had a bounty of Rs5 million on his head and was accused of masterminding multiple terrorist activities inside Pakistan while residing in Afghanistan.
The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding demand for the interim Afghan government to prevent its soil from being used by terrorists against Pakistan. “It validates our stance that Afghan soil continues to be used as a safe haven by khwarij against Pakistan,” the statement read.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the armed forces for their “courage and precision,” saying that the nation stands united under Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate all terrorist elements. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid tribute to the forces, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eradicate terrorism in all its forms.
18 Militants Killed in Balochistan Operations
Earlier in the day, ISPR reported that 18 terrorists were killed in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Balochistan’s Quetta and Kech districts.
The statement said that 14 militants affiliated with the “Indian proxy, Fitna al-Hindustan,” were neutralised in an operation in the Chiltan mountain range of Quetta district after an intense exchange of fire. Another four were killed in a separate operation in Buleda, Kech district, where security forces also recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.
The ISPR noted that the operations reflect Pakistan’s resolve to “continue the counter-terrorism campaign at full pace” to eradicate foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s decision to end its ceasefire with the government in 2022.
