Pakistan’s security forces killed 15 militants during two separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Harnai and Basima districts, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were carried out on March 5 based on intelligence reports regarding the presence of militants in the areas.
The statement said that the militants belonged to groups described by the state as “Fitna al Khawarij” and “Fitna al Hindustan.” The term Fitna al Khawarij is used by authorities for militants linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), while Fitna al Hindustan refers to militant organisations operating in Balochistan.
According to the ISPR, the first intelligence-based operation was conducted in Harnai District, where security forces targeted a hideout of suspected militants.
“During the conduct of the operation, our troops effectively engaged the khawarij hideout and after an intense engagement, 12 Indian-sponsored militants were killed,” the statement said.
In a separate operation in Basima District, security forces tracked militants belonging to Fitna al Hindustan and engaged them using mixed-calibre weapons.
Following a heavy exchange of fire, three militants were killed in the operation, the military said.
Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosives from the killed militants, who were reportedly involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region.
The ISPR said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.
“The security forces of Pakistan, in step with law enforcement agencies, remain determined to continue the counter-terrorism campaign at full pace under the vision of Azm-i-Istehkam to eliminate the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country,” the statement added.
Earlier this week, security forces carried out another intelligence-based operation in Domel tehsil of Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa targeting suspected militants. The operation reportedly left several individuals injured.
Last month, the ISPR reported that 34 militants were killed in separate operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In the same week, security forces also killed nine militants, including a suicide bomber, during intelligence-based operations in the two provinces.
