Security forces on Friday neutralised four terrorists in a joint intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operation was carried out based on intelligence regarding the presence of militants — referred to by the military as “khwarij,” a term used for terrorists.
“During the conduct of [the] operation, [our] own troops effectively engaged khwarij location, resultantly four khwarij were sent to hell,” the ISPR stated.
The military confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, who were reportedly involved in multiple terrorist attacks in the region. A sanitisation operation is ongoing to ensure no other terrorists are hiding in the area.
The ISPR reiterated the resolve of the security forces and law enforcement agencies to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan completely.
Related Operation in Dera Ismail Khan
A similar operation was conducted on Wednesday in the Maddi area of Dera Ismail Khan, where four more terrorists were eliminated. However, Sepoy Basit Siddique, 23, embraced martyrdom during the exchange of fire.
These back-to-back operations highlight the growing intensity of counter-terror efforts amid a resurgence of militant activity, especially after the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
Rising Terrorism in KP and Balochistan
Pakistan has seen a significant spike in terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the month of March saw over 100 terrorist attacks — the highest since November 2014.
In KP alone:
- 206 people were killed:
- 49 security personnel
- 34 civilians
- 123 militants
- 115 were injured, including 63 security personnel and 49 civilians.
