In response to concerns over the law and order situation, police have placed Adiala Jail and its surroundings on high security alert, officials confirmed.
A special security plan has been issued for additional security around the jail, which will remain in effect for an indefinite period, police sources said. As part of the plan, five additional pickets have been established on Adiala Jail Road, and extra personnel will be deployed at Dahgal Naka, Gate One, Gate Five, Factory Naka, and Gorakhpur.
Security duties have been divided into two shifts of 12 hours, involving SHOs of 12 police stations and female police personnel. In total, more than 700 officers and personnel will be deployed to maintain external security. All personnel will be equipped with anti-riot equipment, and the jail’s guard contingent will remain on standby. The operation is under the direct supervision of SP Sadar Anam Sher.
The heightened security comes amid political tensions, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi threatening to disrupt parliamentary proceedings if the PTI founder is denied a meeting. Afridi has also announced plans for a protest in front of the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday.
Authorities have stated that these measures are preventive and precautionary to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of personnel and detainees.
