Seven, Including Five Children, Die in Hafizabad Roof Collapse

A tragic incident occurred in Punjab’s Hafizabad district on Saturday, where seven people, including five children, were killed after the roof of a room collapsed in the Farooq Azam neighbourhood.

According to Hafizabad District Police Officer (DPO) Atif Nazir Kadhar, a woman and her son were conducting tuition classes at the time of the incident. The roof suddenly gave way, trapping those inside. “As a result, the woman, her son, and five children who were taking tuition classes died,” the DPO confirmed in a statement.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the victims from the debris. Officials further reported that one child sustained a critical head injury and is receiving emergency medical treatment.

Following the tragedy, DPO Kadhar personally visited the site to oversee the rescue operation. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the collapse, though initial reports suggest structural weakness.

Roof collapses are a recurring issue in Punjab, often linked to poorly maintained or dilapidated structures. Just last month, three members of a family lost their lives in Nankana Sahib when the roof of their under-construction house caved in. Similarly, in July, two children were killed and two others injured when a roof collapsed in Lahore’s Badami Bagh locality.

The latest Hafizabad tragedy has once again raised concerns over unsafe housing conditions in parts of Punjab, with calls for greater inspection and enforcement of building safety standards.
