POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Islamabad – April 22, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for agreeing to extend the ceasefire, following a joint request made by Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir.
In his statement, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing peaceful and negotiated solutions to ongoing conflicts. He expressed hope that both sides would continue to respect the ceasefire and avoid further escalation.
Shehbaz Sharif also voiced optimism that the upcoming second round of talks scheduled in Islamabad would lead to a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement between the concerned parties.
According to earlier remarks by President Trump, Pakistan’s leadership had urged the United States to refrain from further military action against Iran, a request that contributed to efforts aimed at de-escalation.
The development is being seen as a positive step toward maintaining stability in the region, with diplomatic channels remaining active for a long-term resolution.
