Six Killed, Including Five Family Members, as Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has witnessed a devastating loss of life as six people, including five members of the same family, were killed in separate rain-related incidents following heavy rainfall and strong winds that have lashed the region since Friday.

According to Anwar Shahzada, a spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, continued for the second day, causing damage to property and loss of life.

In one of the tragic incidents, a house collapsed in the Turangzai area of Charsadda district, claiming the lives of three children, their mother, and father. Rescue 1122 teams retrieved their bodies and transferred them to a nearby hospital late Friday night.

In another incident in Upper Dir, a man was killed after being struck by lightning on the same night.

The ongoing rains have also caused damage to two houses, prompting the PDMA to alert local authorities to be prepared for emergencies as more rain is expected.

Condolences and Relief Efforts

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed his grief over the loss of five family members in Charsadda, offering condolences and prayers for the departed souls. He also directed authorities to expedite relief efforts and assist the bereaved family.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur echoed these sentiments, expressing sorrow over the tragic deaths and praying for the deceased.

Statistics and Ongoing Concerns

According to PDMA data, since July 1, 107 people have lost their lives, and 146 have been injured due to rain-related incidents, including landslides and flash floods, across the province. Additionally, 977 houses have sustained damage.

With the weather forecast predicting more rain in the coming days, the PDMA has advised residents, including tourists, to avoid unnecessary travel in hazardous areas to prevent further casualties.

The PDMA continues to work closely with local authorities to ensure a swift response to any emergency situation that may arise due to the ongoing rains, urging caution as the province faces more potential flooding and damage.
