Six soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred while six Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in North Waziristan’s Spinwam area. The operation took place on the night of October 4/5, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The exchange of fire between the security forces and terrorists led to the neutralization of six Khawarij — a term designated for TTP terrorists — marking a significant success in the ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorism from the region. Among the fallen heroes was Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Ali Shoukat, who led the troops during the intense encounter.

The other five soldiers who embraced martyrdom while fighting valiantly were identified as Lance Naik Muhammad Ullah, Lance Naik Akhtar Zaman, Lance Naik Shahid Ullah, Lance Naik Yusaf Ali, and Sepoy Jameel Ahmed. ISPR praised their sacrifice, stating that these brave men "paid the ultimate price for the security of their homeland."

In a separate incident, law enforcement agencies, with the support of military forces, conducted another successful IBO in the Charbagh area of Swat, killing two more terrorists. One of the terrorists was identified as Attaullah, also known as Mehran, who was involved in multiple terror activities, including an IED blast on a police convoy escorting foreign dignitaries in Swat on September 22, 2024.

Sanitisation operations are ongoing in both areas to eliminate any remaining terrorist threats. ISPR reiterated that the security forces are resolute in their mission to wipe out terrorism from Pakistan. “Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement added.

This operation is part of a larger effort to combat the increasing wave of terrorist attacks that have targeted security forces in recent months, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan regions. Pakistan has witnessed a resurgence in terrorist activities following the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement between the government and the TTP in 2022, with the TTP vowing to target security personnel and law enforcement agencies.

In July, the government officially designated the banned TTP as Fitna al Khawarij, mandating that all institutions refer to the group as Khariji, or outcasts, when identifying the perpetrators of terrorism in Pakistan. This move further underscores the government's efforts to isolate and discredit the TTP’s extremist ideology.

The country continues to mourn the loss of its soldiers, while acknowledging the significance of their sacrifice in the ongoing fight to secure a peaceful future for Pakistan.
