Students Protest at Bangladesh Supreme Court, Demand Resignation of Pro-Awami League Judges

Students in Bangladesh entered the premises of the Supreme Court today, calling for the resignation of judges perceived to be aligned with the ruling Awami League party. The protest commenced around 11 AM, as students gathered, chanting slogans and expressing their grievances against what they termed "fascist judges."

Simultaneously, lawyers affiliated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) gathered separately, echoing the call for judicial accountability and demanding the resignation of judges appointed during the tenure of the Awami League government.

Hasnat Abdullah, one of the movement's coordinators, announced the protest plans on Facebook, stating, "On Wednesday at 11 am, the High Court will be surrounded, demanding the resignation of the Awami League fascist judges." This mobilization reflects growing tensions regarding judicial independence and political influence within the Bangladeshi legal system.

This protest is not an isolated incident; it follows a similar demonstration held on August 10, where students marched to the High Court, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan and other judges from the Appellate Division. The pressure from student activists culminated in the resignation of Chief Justice Hasan on the same day.

As tensions continue to rise, observers are closely monitoring the developments surrounding judicial independence and political dynamics in Bangladesh.
