The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday rejected petitions filed by the Sindh government regarding the employment quota for heirs of deceased government employees, upholding the Sindh High Court’s earlier decisions.
The apex court clarified that cases already disposed of cannot be reopened and that there is no legal flaw in the Sindh High Court’s orders. It emphasized that any decision to repeal quota-related laws cannot be applied retroactively.
The court noted that rulings like the one in the General Post Office case are generally applicable to future cases unless explicitly stated otherwise. Therefore, the Sindh High Court’s orders, issued between 2019 and 2023, granting employment to heirs of deceased government employees, remain valid and enforceable.
This verdict reinforces the principle that past employment decisions under established quotas cannot be challenged after disposal, ensuring stability and legal certainty for those beneficiaries.
