Tehran: Iran Declares End to Diplomacy Amid US-Israel Escalation, Warns UN of Crisis Deepening

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Monday that the door to diplomacy has definitively closed, citing the ongoing US and Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and the United Nations’ failure to act decisively.

In a strongly worded letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Araqchi said,

“The UN’s failure to take practical steps will further exacerbate the crisis. Our enemies' repeated appeals for diplomacy are now meaningless — the door to diplomacy has definitely been closed.”

This marks a significant shift in Tehran’s position, which had previously expressed openness to diplomatic talks, even amid tensions. Araqchi’s statement follows a series of devastating US-led airstrikes on Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, triggering a regional conflict that continues to spiral.

Speaking upon arrival in Moscow, Araqchi emphasized Iran's strategic alignment with Russia.

“Russia is a friend of Iran, and I will hold serious consultations with President Vladimir Putin today,” he said.

Moscow, which maintains strong ties with both Tehran and Tel Aviv, is expected to play a key role in the evolving situation. Analysts believe these talks could pave the way for a new Iran-Russia axis in response to US and Israeli aggression.

The Iranian declaration comes amid rising fears of a broader Middle East conflict, with regional oil markets already rattled and global leaders urging restraint. The situation has also drawn international condemnation, including from Pakistan, China, and Russia, who jointly presented a ceasefire resolution at the UN Security Council last week.

Tehran’s warning signals that it is preparing for a prolonged standoff and potentially escalatory military responses, especially as public pressure mounts within Iran following the loss of senior military figures and widespread civilian casualties.
