At least three people were killed and one injured in separate road accidents across the city on Tuesday, police and rescue officials confirmed.
According to a handout issued by Malir traffic police, a dumper truck collided head-on with a motorcycle near Dur Muhammad Goth around 7:30am. One of the riders died on the spot, while the other sustained serious injuries and was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Police said the accident occurred due to the dumper driver’s reckless and negligent driving. The driver was arrested on the spot and taken to Memon Goth police station, while both vehicles were seized for legal proceedings.
Fatalities in Nazimabad
Meanwhile, Karachi’s Edhi Information Centre reported that a young man performing a one-wheeling stunt in Nazimabad was injured in a crash. He later died during treatment at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
In another tragic accident near the fire brigade office in Nazimabad, two boys riding a motorcycle collided with a stationary vehicle. Both were rushed to hospital but succumbed to their injuries.
Separately, a handout by the central traffic police confirmed another motorcycle crash in Nazimabad around 6:35am, where a speeding motorcycle rammed into a parked car. Both riders were taken to hospital but later died during treatment.
Rising Traffic Casualties in Karachi
The latest accidents highlight the growing crisis of traffic safety in Karachi. Data from hospitals shows that in 2024 alone, nearly 500 people were killed and 4,879 injured in road accidents across the city, with heavy vehicles such as dumpers and water tankers frequently involved.
Earlier this month, seven members of a family lost their lives when a truck rammed into their car on a national highway near Moro. Last month, three people were killed and one injured in another high-speed collision at Karachi’s Drigh Road Underpass.
Authorities have repeatedly cited overspeeding, reckless driving, and poor enforcement of traffic rules as the leading causes behind the rising number of casualties.
Police said investigations into Tuesday’s accidents are ongoing.
