POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi from New York has been appointed as the new Chairman of the U.S. Pakistan Caucus in Congress, following the passing of Sheila Jackson Lee. Suozzi, who has represented New York's 3rd Congressional District since 2017, expressed his dedication to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the United States and Pakistan.
In a recent statement, Suozzi highlighted his enthusiasm for his new role and outlined his commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two nations. His appointment comes at a time when U.S.-Pakistan relations are under scrutiny and in need of renewed engagement.
Following his appointment, Dr. Asif Riaz Qadeer, a prominent Democratic leader, and community leader Tanveer Ahmed met with Suozzi to extend a formal invitation for him to visit Pakistan. Suozzi accepted the invitation and is scheduled to visit the country in November.
The late Sheila Jackson Lee, who previously chaired the Pakistan Caucus, was a staunch advocate for Pakistan, especially during times of natural disasters. Her efforts were recognized by the Government of Pakistan, which honored her with the Hilal-e-Pakistan award for her services.
Suozzi's upcoming visit and his new role as Chairman are expected to foster stronger ties and greater dialogue between the U.S. and Pakistan, continuing the legacy of advocacy and support that Sheila Jackson Lee championed.
