Tragic Eid-ul-Adha: 27 Drown in Pakistan Amid Heatwave Relief Efforts

The intense heatwave gripping Pakistan led citizens to seek relief in canals, rivers, dams, and the sea during Eid-ul-Adha. Unfortunately, these efforts to escape the sweltering temperatures resulted in a tragic toll as 27 individuals drowned in various cities across the country.

The incidents occurred in multiple locations, including Karachi, where four children lost their lives at Hawkes Bay. In Okara, two children drowned, while two unidentified individuals met a similar fate at Kohat Dam. In Khanpur, two people drowned, with an additional two brothers perishing in Rahim Yar Khan. The district of Leh saw three children drown, and in Khanpur, three people, including two sisters, also drowned. Further casualties included two sisters in the Indus River and one individual each in Bajaur, Head Qadirpur, Kot Addo, Farooqabad, and Sialkot.

According to rescue reports, the tragedy in Kohat occurred at Tanda Dam, where two individuals drowned while bathing. Their bodies were later recovered by rescue teams but remain unidentified.

In Okara, a two-year-old boy named Shah Zain fell into a canal in the town of 28 Tol and drowned. Despite rescue efforts, another young man, Haseebullah, could not be saved after being pulled from the water.

These incidents highlight the dangers posed by water bodies, especially during periods of extreme heat when people are more likely to seek relief in potentially hazardous conditions. Authorities and rescue teams have emphasized the need for caution and proper safety measures when venturing into such environments.

As Pakistan continues to grapple with soaring temperatures, it is crucial for citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies.
