Garhi Yasin, Sindh: A deadly clash erupted between two tribal groups—the Mehr and Marfani communities—in the village of Banbhihar, near the Agha Farm police station, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including three brothers. The violent conflict was triggered by a dispute over an alleged informer, which led to gunfire exchanged between the two factions.
The victims from the Marfani side included three brothers: Hashim Daudani Marfani, Babil Daudani Marfani, and Lalu Daudani Marfani. Manthar Nihalani Marfani, and Saddam Mehr from the Mehr side were also killed during the confrontation. Two other individuals, Jahangir Mehr and Ali Muhammad Mehr, were critically injured in the attack. The gunfire continued intermittently, spreading fear and panic throughout the area.
The tragic incident took place after a member of the Mehr faction shot and killed Lalu Marfani, accusing him of being an informer. Following this, gunmen from both sides engaged in a violent exchange of fire. The bodies of the deceased remained at the scene for four hours as sporadic shooting continued. Garhi Yasin and Agha Farm police arrived late, after which the bodies were taken to the hospital for postmortem and handed over to the families. Despite the grave nature of the incident, no case had been registered at the time of reporting.
In the aftermath of the killings, shopkeepers from the Mehr community in Garhi Yasin closed their businesses and fled to nearby villages, further amplifying the sense of panic in the area. The ongoing sporadic firing fueled fears of more violence, as tensions between the two factions have a long history. This incident is part of a larger tribal conflict between the Mehr and Marfani factions, which has already seen several casualties over the years.
Historically, clashes between these factions have resulted in significant loss of life, including members from other tribes such as the Jafri and Jamali factions. This latest incident is a reminder of the ongoing violence that plagues parts of Sindh, particularly in tribal areas, where feuds over power and resources continue to cause destruction.
Local authorities have yet to take any decisive action in bringing those responsible for the violence to justice. The community and law enforcement officials are under increasing pressure to restore peace and prevent further tribal warfare from escalating.
