Former US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for Iran’s recent apology to its neighbouring countries, asserting that it was a result of continuous attacks by the United States and Israel.
In a statement posted on social media, Trump said that Iran has been “defeated badly” and that the Islamic Republic promised not to attack neighbouring countries again. According to Trump, this apology was forced by sustained military and strategic pressure on Iran.
Trump accused Iran of attempting to “occupy the Middle East and rule it,” and claimed that this was the first instance in thousands of years that Iran had been defeated by the surrounding Middle Eastern nations. He stated that regional countries have expressed gratitude for the US-led pressure, which he welcomed.
“Iran will no longer be considered the ‘thug’ of the Middle East, but will now be called the defeated country of the Middle East,” Trump said, suggesting that this label may persist for decades.
The former president also issued a warning that Iran could face severe attacks moving forward, indicating that areas and groups previously not considered for targeting may now be included due to Iran’s conduct.
Trump’s statement comes in the wake of escalating tensions following recent US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Iran’s subsequent missile and drone responses in the region. Analysts note that such public claims by the former president are aimed at framing the narrative of US influence and deterrence in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
