TTAP Blames Balochistan Attacks on ‘Security Failure’, Demands Free Elections

The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) on Monday strongly condemned the wave of terrorist attacks that struck multiple areas of Balochistan last week, terming them a major security failure on the part of the provincial government and law enforcement agencies.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, TTAP expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and paid tribute to the civilians and security personnel who were martyred in the attacks. According to the military’s media wing, terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Hindustan carried out coordinated assaults across the province on Saturday, resulting in the martyrdom of 18 civilians and 15 security personnel.

The opposition alliance stated that an attack of such scale exposed serious shortcomings in governance and security arrangements. TTAP said the incidents reflected how limited the writ of the state had become in Balochistan and highlighted a troubling disregard for the safety of citizens’ lives and property.

Criticising the provincial administration, TTAP questioned how long the public would be expected to ignore what it described as a government lacking popular support and focused solely on extending its stay in power. The alliance maintained that only governments with unquestionable moral legitimacy were capable of effectively combating terrorism.

Reiterating its stance on the political situation, TTAP renewed its demand for free and fair elections, referring to the 2024 General Elections. The alliance stressed that Pakistan’s challenges could only be resolved through genuinely representative governments, rather than systems imposed against the will of the people.

The attacks occurred during the early hours of Saturday when multiple terrorist cells targeted security and government installations in more than 10 cities and towns across Balochistan. Suicide bombers, including female attackers, were reportedly involved. Security forces engaged the attackers in intense gun battles across various locations.

Following the attacks, security forces launched extensive cordon-and-sweep operations across urban and rural areas to eliminate any remaining terrorist presence and restore order in the province.
