US Secretary of War Warns Iran: Diplomacy or Expanded Attacks

US Secretary of War Pat Hegseth on Tuesday issued a stark warning to Iran, urging Tehran to pursue diplomatic negotiations or face expanded US attacks on its infrastructure.

In a press conference, Hegseth said that the United States has been carrying out operations inside Iranian airspace and striking critical targets with full force under Operation Epic Fury, claiming that Iran’s military capabilities have been largely neutralized.

“The Iranian army has been destroyed and their military leadership is in despair,” he said, noting that recent Iranian missile firings had been minimal and would be intercepted by US forces.

Hegseth emphasized that the US is prepared to escalate operations if Iran refuses to negotiate, including ground operations by special forces in coordination with allied countries in the region. “Time is running out for Tehran to surrender,” he warned.

The Secretary of War framed the US military strategy as a mix of pressure and negotiation. “The negotiating table is open, but there will be no reduction in military pressure. A major goal of the war is to permanently destroy Iran’s nuclear capability,” he said.

Hegseth credited former President Donald Trump for increasing security in the Strait of Hormuz, ensuring continued shipping through the region despite heightened tensions.

At the same briefing, US General Dean Keene claimed that US forces had destroyed 150 Iranian naval vessels and continued to target key industries and research facilities in Iran.

The warning underscores Washington’s readiness to intensify military action while leaving a window for Iran to seek a negotiated solution. Hegseth stated that if Iran fails to take the diplomatic route, the scope of attacks on infrastructure will be expanded, and the current deadline for Tehran to secure strategic installations will not be extended.

The statements mark a significant escalation in US rhetoric, signaling both ongoing military operations and a clear ultimatum to Iranian leadership.
