3 Killed, 7 Injured in Kalat Bus Attack Amid Wave of Balochistan Violence

At least three passengers were killed and seven others injured when terrorists ambushed a Karachi-to-Quetta passenger coach in Kalat’s Nemargh area on Wednesday. The assault is the latest in a growing wave of attacks in Balochistan targeting civilians, particularly those from Punjab.

According to provincial government spokesperson Shahid Rind, the attackers had laid an ambush on both sides of the road, stopping the bus before opening indiscriminate fire. Rescue teams transported the injured to District Headquarters Hospital Kalat, where a medical emergency was declared.

“Security forces and local administration have cordoned off the area and a search operation is underway,” said Rind. He added that Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti had ordered a full investigation.

🔹 Government Condemnations

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, attributing it to Fitna-Al-Hindustan — a term used for India-backed terrorist groups operating in Balochistan.

“These cowardly terrorists are targeting soft civilian targets to disrupt peace. But we will defeat them with the nation’s support,” he declared.

CM Bugti, echoing the sentiment, called the attack “despicable,” noting that terrorist groups previously targeting passengers based on identity are now indiscriminately attacking civilians, proving their “war is against every ordinary Pakistani.”

🔹 Political Reactions

·       Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah called the attack a “barbaric act” and stressed the need for eliminating terrorism for national prosperity.

·       PPP Senator Sherry Rehman urged “decisive and robust action” against terrorists and their facilitators.

·       PPP MNA Shazia Marri said such violence violates Baloch traditions, and called for strong federal-provincial action.

🔹 Recent Attacks on Passengers from Punjab

The Kalat incident follows a deadly series of targeted killings:

·       Last week, nine passengers on Punjab-bound coaches were abducted and executed in Sur-Dakai, on the Zhob-Loralai border. The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility.

·       In February, seven Punjab-bound passengers were shot dead in Barkhan.

·       In April, nine were killed near Noshki, and two Punjabi labourers were executed in Kech.

·       In May 2023, seven Punjabi barbers were shot dead near Gwadar, and in August, 23 travellers were killed in Musakhail.

According to officials, in many cases, identity cards were checked, and individuals from Punjab were deliberately targeted.

🔹 Government Response and Classification

In May 2024, the government officially designated all such terrorist groups in Balochistan as “Fitna-Al-Hindustan”, blaming Indian involvement in stoking separatist violence. These groups have not only targeted civilians but also attacked infrastructure, security forces, and development projects in the province.

🔹 Call for Unity and Justice

The consistent targeting of civilians — especially Punjabis — has raised urgent questions about internal security and the scope of foreign interference. While search operations continue, public pressure is mounting on the federal and provincial governments to act swiftly and decisively.
