A 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook various regions across Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday. The tremors, originating from the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, were felt in cities including Islamabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Mohmand, Shabkadar, and Attock.
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake’s epicenter was located in the mountainous Hindu Kush region, known for its seismic activity. The tremors struck at a depth that could be felt across the affected areas, creating a wave of concern among residents.
Witnesses reported that many people recited the Kalima Tayyaba and, in several places, rushed out of their homes and buildings to ensure their safety. In cities like Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Swat, residents described feeling strong tremors lasting a few seconds, heightening concerns and a sense of urgency.
Emergency services have been alerted to monitor any potential damage, although no immediate reports of major injuries or property damage have surfaced. Pakistan, particularly regions close to the Hindu Kush mountain range, experiences frequent tremors due to tectonic activity.
Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to stay safe during any aftershocks. Earthquakes in this region often have unpredictable impacts, and authorities encourage preparedness to mitigate risks.
