10 PTI MNAs Presented in National Assembly Following Arrest in Late-Night Raid

In a dramatic turn of events, 10 MNAs from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who were arrested earlier this week from Parliament House were presented in the National Assembly on Thursday. This follows their arrest in a late-night raid on Tuesday, in which plainclothesmen stormed the premises and disconnected the power supply before whisking away the legislators.

The production orders for the detained MNAs were issued by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in response to an outcry from PTI members in the assembly. Following the raid, five security staff members were suspended, and five officials from the Capital Development Authority were transferred for their involvement in disconnecting the building's power.

A four-member committee, led by Additional Secretary Iftikhar Ahmad, has been established to investigate the security breach and the unauthorized movements in the Parliament House during the raid.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the earlier physical remand of the MNAs, placing them on judicial remand. The court expressed concerns over the decision of the anti-terrorism court (ATC), which had granted an eight-day physical remand. The IHC Chief Justice, Aamer Farooq, questioned the necessity of a lengthy remand and highlighted that the ATC’s verdict lacked adequate justification.

The raid, which occurred in the aftermath of PTI’s power show in Sangjani, led to the arrest of several prominent party members, including Sher Afzal Marwat and Zubair Khan Wazir. Reports indicate that unmarked vehicles and a large police presence were involved in the operation.

The case has drawn national attention, with many questioning the legality and intent behind the late-night arrests of sitting lawmakers. The IHC is set to resume hearing the petitions related to the remand tomorrow.
