AJK Premier Slams Indian Defence Minister’s Call for Kashmiris to Join India

In a fierce response to recent remarks made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) leadership has strongly condemned the call for AJK residents to join India. AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq advised Indian leaders to abandon their “ridiculous rhetoric” and instead let the people of the disputed region determine their future according to their own will.

Singh, during a political rally, had extended an invitation to the people of AJK, claiming that India considered them “their own” unlike Pakistan, where they were allegedly treated as foreigners. His remarks were reportedly referring to a statement by Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Duggal, who described AJK as foreign territory, citing its separate constitution and judicial system.

In his response, PM Haq criticised the Indian government's audacity in making such statements, especially considering India's ongoing occupation of Kashmir and the gross human rights abuses allegedly committed by Indian forces in the region. He pointed out the atrocities including mass rapes, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and the discovery of over 8,000 unnamed mass graves in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Haq urged the Indian government to withdraw its occupation forces and respect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination as enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions. He also called on the international community to hold India accountable for its actions and facilitate a UN-sponsored plebiscite to resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully.
