A petition has been filed in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) by Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, requesting a medical examination for the former prime minister due to complaints of blurred vision and severe eye pressure.
The petition, filed on Wednesday, stated that Imran Khan last underwent an eye checkup by his personal physician on November 4, 2024, and has since experienced worsening symptoms.
Concerns Over Government Doctors
Aleema Khan expressed distrust in doctors appointed by the federal and Punjab governments, requesting that Imran’s personal physician be included in any medical board constituted for the examination.
The petition further alleged that the PTI founder has been deprived of basic rights while in detention and called for the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to be directed to immediately form a medical board to assess his condition.
Court’s Response
During the preliminary hearing, ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued notices to the Superintendent Adiala Jail and the prosecution, seeking a detailed response by August 29.
The court’s decision will determine whether a special medical board—potentially including Imran’s personal physician—will be formed to examine the PTI founder’s health.
Background
Imran Khan has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail since his conviction in multiple cases, including the Toshakhana reference. PTI leaders and family members have consistently raised concerns about his health, security, and access to medical facilities while in custody.
The petition highlights ongoing tensions between PTI and the government regarding the treatment of its founder, who continues to face a string of legal challenges while incarcerated.
