Massive Fire Guts Factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone, Building Collapses

A massive fire broke out on Thursday in a garment factory located in the Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) of Karachi, leading to the complete collapse of the building and injuries to at least seven individuals.

According to fire brigade officials, the blaze erupted over four hours ago and has yet to be brought under control. Rescue operations remain ongoing, with 12 fire tenders, two water bowsers, and two snorkels currently engaged in extinguishing the flames. Additional fire trucks have also been summoned to the site due to the intensity of the fire.

All employees present inside the factory were successfully evacuated before the five-storey structure collapsed. Rescue officials confirmed that seven nearby individuals sustained injuries as a result of the building’s collapse and were shifted to the hospital for medical treatment.

In light of the dangerous spread of the fire, surrounding factories were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took immediate notice of the incident and instructed all fire and rescue agencies to prioritize the protection of human lives. He also directed the Karachi Commissioner to initiate a full inquiry into the fire incident and ensure complete cooperation with factory owners and workers affected by the disaster.

Briefed by rescue teams, the Chief Minister was informed that a large number of workers were inside the factory when the fire started but were safely evacuated due to prompt action. Despite this success, the garment factory’s five-storey building ultimately collapsed due to the severity of the blaze.

This incident raises concerns once again about fire safety protocols and industrial emergency preparedness in one of Karachi’s major industrial zones. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and a detailed report is expected soon.
