POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has confirmed that Pakistan possesses “clear documentary evidence” showing that Afghan soil is being used to carry out terrorist activities against Pakistan.
According to a report by Jang and The News Editor Investigations Ansar Abbasi, Gandapur made the remarks in an interview with The News, stating that both the provincial and federal governments have solid proof that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been operating from Afghanistan, particularly targeting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“As a former chief minister, I can confirm that there is concrete evidence that the TTP is conducting terrorist attacks from Afghanistan into Pakistan,” Gandapur said.
He further claimed that these activities were taking place with the knowledge and support of the Afghan government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA). Gandapur added that Afghan nationals had been involved in several terrorist incidents in KP and that Afghan citizens were arrested in multiple cases linked to terrorism in the province.
The former KP chief minister’s statement comes amid ongoing debate over Pakistan’s security concerns along its western border and allegations of militant sanctuaries across the border.
Earlier, the current Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, had stated that the state should present evidence to substantiate claims that Afghan soil is being used for terrorism against Pakistan.
Ali Amin Gandapur’s confirmation now adds political weight to Islamabad’s longstanding position that militant groups continue to exploit Afghan territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan, particularly in KP’s border districts.
