Bushra Bibi Secures Bail in 13 D-Chowk Protest Cases

The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court has approved interim bail for Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in 13 cases related to D-Chowk protests. The court extended her bail until February 7, requiring bonds of Rs 5,500 for each case.

During the proceedings, Bushra Bibi and her legal team appeared before the court. Judge Tahir Abbas Supra presided over the hearing, during which the handling of legal documents and procedures drew the judge's ire.

The judge criticized the submission of Bushra Bibi’s signature and thumbprint on plain paper, emphasizing that official protocols must be followed. He stated, “Court orders must carry the signature and thumbprint of the accused, ensuring proper legal documentation.”

Protest-Related Cases Registered Across Islamabad

Bushra Bibi faces 13 separate cases filed in various police stations across Islamabad. These include three cases in Secretariat Police Station, two each in Margalla and Karachi Company Police Stations, and one each in Tarnol, Kohsar, Aabpara, Khanna, and Ramna police stations.

The court directed police to submit complete case records at the next hearing, while adjourning further proceedings.

Bushra Bibi Expresses Distrust in the Justice System

During the hearing, Bushra Bibi shared her observations of the judicial process. She recounted seeing judges under immense stress, even becoming physically unwell during trials. “One judge's blood pressure reached 200, but he still should have sentenced us,” she remarked.

She further expressed disillusionment with the justice system, stating, “There is law in the country, but no justice. The founder of PTI [Imran Khan] is imprisoned for upholding the constitution. After what we’ve experienced, our faith in the law is shaken.”

In response, Judge Tahir Abbas reassured her of the judiciary's commitment to justice, stating, “The justice system is still functioning. If it collapses, so will society.”

Bail Granted in Ramna Police Station Case

The court also heard a separate case involving allegations of Bushra Bibi hitting a Rangers official with her vehicle. After reviewing the matter, Judge Tahir Abbas granted interim bail until February 7.

Context and Broader Implications

The cases against Bushra Bibi are part of a broader crackdown on individuals associated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the wake of political unrest. The D-Chowk protests have drawn significant attention, raising questions about accountability, legal procedures, and the state of Pakistan’s justice system.

With the next hearing set for February 7, all eyes will remain on the Anti-Terrorism Court as it navigates these high-profile cases.
