POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Jiang Zedong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, has praised Islamabad’s mediation efforts in the ongoing Middle East crisis, describing its role as “commendable” amid rising regional tensions.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, the ambassador reiterated China’s support for resolving international disputes through dialogue and diplomatic engagement rather than the use of force.
Commenting on the evolving situation in the Middle East, Jiang emphasised that China firmly opposes unilateral actions and power politics, calling for a balanced and lawful approach to conflict resolution.
He further stated that China does not support the subordination of international law to domestic law, stressing the importance of upholding global legal frameworks in managing international disputes.
The ambassador also highlighted the need to protect civilians and critical infrastructure, noting that non-military targets should not be attacked under any circumstances. He underscored the importance of maintaining the security of key maritime routes, which are vital for global trade and economic stability.
Jiang affirmed that China will continue its mediation efforts and diplomatic engagement until a peaceful resolution to the conflict is achieved, reinforcing Beijing’s stance as a proponent of stability and multilateral cooperation.
His remarks come at a time when Pakistan is increasingly being viewed as a potential mediator in the Middle East, with multiple diplomatic channels being explored to de-escalate tensions and promote dialogue among involved parties.
