POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Senior Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has revealed that the Sindh government is considering imposing a “smart lockdown” as part of measures to tackle the ongoing crisis and conserve fuel resources.
Speaking to the media in Sukkur, Shah said that the current situation is far from normal and warned that prolonged instability, particularly in the context of ongoing global tensions, could create serious challenges for the public.
“The current situation is not normal. If the war continues for a long time, everyone will face difficulties,” he stated, underlining the need for proactive planning.
The minister emphasised the urgency of adopting measures to reduce fuel consumption, adding that the provincial government is actively reviewing options, including a targeted or “smart” lockdown strategy to manage resources more efficiently while minimising disruption to daily life.
He further disclosed that daily high-level meetings are being held to assess the situation and coordinate responses. As part of immediate steps, the government has already reduced petrol usage for official vehicles by 60 percent in an effort to conserve fuel.
The potential implementation of a smart lockdown indicates the Sindh government’s attempt to balance economic activity with resource management, especially as concerns grow over fuel availability and rising costs linked to global developments.
