CTD Kills 3 Terrorists in Nankana Sahib IBO, Two Flee; Weapons Recovered

In a high-stakes intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in Nankana Sahib, Punjab’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) neutralized three terrorists while two others managed to escape, a CTD spokesperson reported on Wednesday.

The operation took a dangerous turn when the terrorists opened fire on the CTD team. In the chaotic exchange, three of the attackers were killed, reportedly by the gunfire of their own comrades. The CTD successfully recovered a cache of deadly weapons, including three grenades, three detonators, fuse wire, two rifles, bullets, and explosives.

"A search operation to apprehend the escaped terrorists is underway," said the spokesperson, adding that teams had established pickets near the Motorway Nankana Interchange A. The process of identifying the dead terrorists is currently ongoing.

The CTD revealed that the group had been planning a major attack in Lahore, which was thwarted by the timely action. Pakistan has witnessed a worrying surge in terrorist activities, with August alone recording 59 attacks, up from 38 the previous month, according to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), an Islamabad-based think tank.

This operation follows the recent arrest of nine terrorists by CTD Punjab during 71 IBOs across the province last week. Additionally, two terrorists were killed during an operation in Dera Ghazi Khan on Friday.

The CTD continues its efforts to dismantle terror networks, with security forces on high alert following intelligence of potential attacks in key urban areas.
