CTD Punjab Arrests Nine Terrorists in Intelligence-Based Operations Across Province

Punjab’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has made a significant breakthrough by arresting nine terrorists following 71 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) across the province. The operations, carried out in key cities such as Lahore, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad, were part of CTD’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and maintain internal security, according to a statement released by the department on Saturday.

“The CTD conducted 71 IBOs across various cities in Punjab due to terrorism concerns,” a CTD Punjab spokesperson revealed. “Nine terrorists were arrested during the operations.” These operations are part of CTD’s regular activities aimed at preventing and investigating terrorism-related activities, in close collaboration with provincial law enforcement agencies.

Among the arrested individuals, a terrorist linked to the Fitna-ul-Khawarij group was apprehended in Mianwali, while a suspect from the notorious Islamic State (IS) was captured in Faisalabad. These groups have been involved in orchestrating terror attacks aimed at destabilizing the country.

In July, the Pakistani government officially designated the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij, a term used to describe the outcasts responsible for terrorist attacks on Pakistan. This move underscores the government’s strong stance against extremist elements.

During the IBOs, CTD personnel recovered an array of dangerous materials, including explosives, two hand grenades, 26 detonators, 73 feet of safety fuse wire, bullets, arms, mobile phones, and cash from the arrested terrorists. The arrested suspects were identified as Abdul Kareem, Usman, Imran Siddiqui, Shani, Shaukat, Ahmed Khan, Shiraz Mahmood, Saeed ur Rehman, and Mustajab.

The CTD spokesperson highlighted that the terrorists were plotting to spread fear and panic across the province. Their arrests have helped prevent potential terrorist attacks and saved countless lives.

In addition to these arrests, the CTD carried out a total of 978 combing operations this week, resulting in the arrest of 78 more suspects. During these operations, 34,694 individuals were questioned as part of efforts to root out terrorism from the region.

Just a day earlier, the CTD Punjab had successfully neutralized two terrorists during a separate operation in Dera Ghazi Khan. This coordinated effort across the province has been critical in curbing the rising number of terrorist activities in Pakistan.

According to the Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS), a think-tank based in Islamabad, Pakistan witnessed a rise in terrorist attacks in August, with 59 incidents compared to 38 in July. The CTD remains committed to countering terrorism and ensuring the safety of Pakistan’s citizens.
