Defense Minister Khawaja Asif Criticizes KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur's Proposal for Direct Talks with Afghanistan

In a recent session of the National Assembly, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, for proposing direct negotiations with Afghanistan. Asif described Gandapur's statement as "poison" and warned that no province holds the authority to engage in such negotiations independently.
Asif's remarks were made in response to Gandapur’s announcement at a public event, where the KP Chief Minister expressed a desire to personally engage with Afghanistan, citing a deep personal connection and frustration with the ongoing issues. Gandapur stated, “Let me send a delegation to Afghanistan. They are our neighbors, my blood is flowing; how long will I bear it? I announce that I will talk to Afghanistan myself.”
Asif defended the integrity and authority of the federal government, stressing that any negotiations with foreign countries should be conducted at the federal level to maintain national unity and coherence. He highlighted that previous disagreements with the People's Party had not reached such a low tolerance level, underscoring the significance of maintaining proper channels for international diplomacy.
The defense minister's comments underscore the federal government's stance on preserving centralized control over foreign affairs and addressing provincial leaders’ actions that could undermine national policies.
