CRIME

A local panchayat (tribal court) in the Bhagwani Shumali area forced a poor barber, Adil, to give up his 11-year-old daughter in Vani as reparation for an alleged dispute. Devastated by the verdict, Adil took his own life in despair on Saturday after consuming poison, police confirmed.
According to officials, the influential figures of the area accused Adil’s nephew of talking to the daughter of a man named Farid. Viewing this as an insult, they abducted Adil with the help of local Malik Inayatullah and convened a panchayat at their guesthouse (dera).
During the so-called tribal court, Adil was brutally beaten and coerced into signing a stamp paper, agreeing to give up his daughter in Vani. The accused had already extorted Rs700,000 from him earlier as a form of compensation. Unable to bear the trauma, Adil recorded an emotional audio message before ending his life, naming those responsible and pleading for justice for his family.
Public Outrage and Police Action
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding swift justice from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Ashfaq Anwar, and Dera District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed Shahbazada.
Following the orders of Dera RPO, a police team led by ASP Paharpur Ali Hamza registered a case and arrested two of the suspects. SP Paharpur Gohar Khan confirmed that the girl had been rescued from the accused. Further investigations are underway to hold all responsible accountable.
Another Shocking Crime: Woman, Son Arrested for Murder
Meanwhile, another shocking case was reported in Awan village, where a woman allegedly killed her husband with the help of her son and buried the body in the courtyard of their house.
The police have taken both the mother and son into custody and launched an investigation into the murder. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bandkorai police station, where authorities are working to uncover further details surrounding the crime.
These back-to-back incidents highlight the urgent need for legal reforms and strict enforcement of laws to prevent Vani practices, honor-related injustices, and domestic violence in Pakistan.
