Fawad Chaudhry Predicts Breakthrough in Efforts for Imran Khan’s Release Within 15 Days

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has expressed optimism that the ongoing efforts for political stability in Pakistan and the release of political prisoners, including PTI founder Imran Khan, will begin to show positive results in the next 10 to 15 days.

Taking to social media platform X on Wednesday, Fawad stated that the joint initiative by him and fellow former PTI leaders Mehmood Moulvi and Imran Ismail had started yielding “initial successes.” He said their campaign for dialogue between the government and PTI was aimed at reducing political tensions and restoring stability.

“I am very pleased that the efforts for political stability and to secure the release of political prisoners, including Imran Khan, have resulted in significant initial successes, and their impact will start becoming evident in the next 10 to 15 days,” Fawad wrote.

He reiterated that the trio’s mission was focused solely on “political stability in Pakistan” and voiced optimism that differences among political actors would soon narrow. “It is important to abate political hostilities for Pakistan’s long-term development,” he emphasized.

However, his statement came just hours after a post from Imran Khan’s official X account declared that the jailed PTI founder would “neither hold talks with the government nor with the establishment.” The post also noted that any decisions about negotiations would be made by Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas — leaders of the opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan — while reaffirming Khan’s trust in PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

Political Outreach Campaign

The political efforts of Fawad, Moulvi, and Ismail gained attention last week when they visited imprisoned PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi at a Lahore hospital. Despite reports that their meeting was brief and apolitical, the trio maintained that Qureshi shared their view on the need to end Pakistan’s ongoing political deadlock.

The former PTI leaders also claimed to have met jailed party member Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, continuing their outreach to those within the PTI ranks.

Meanwhile, Fawad has asserted that over 15 MPAs and several senior PTI figures privately support engagement with the government. He urged authorities to release senior PTI leaders from Lahore and Gujranwala jails as a goodwill gesture to pave the way for talks.

“If the government gives relief to the incarcerated leaders, they can engage with Imran Khan and lead the process of political dialogue,” he explained, emphasizing that Imran’s political mandate rests with these jailed leaders.

He further revealed plans for the trio to approach the National Assembly speaker, Senate chairman, and senior ministers to seek their involvement in easing tensions.

Despite speculation, the former PTI leaders dismissed claims that their initiative seeks a “minus Imran formula,” insisting their focus remains on dialogue and reconciliation to stabilize Pakistan’s political environment.
