Govt Clarifies PTI Founder Jail Meeting, Reaffirms CDF Appointment Process

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar and Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar held a joint press conference to clarify details regarding the recent meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder in Adiala Jail and the facilities provided to him.

The ministers said that while it took six months to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, prison regulations clearly prohibit political meetings for any inmate. Atta Tarar emphasized that the PTI founder is convicted in a £190 million case, and he has been provided unprecedented privileges inside the prison.

“Political talks did take place between the founder of PTI and Uzma Khan, but after today, Uzma Khan’s meeting will be banned,” Atta Tarar said. He also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone violating the law outside the prison, referring to the founder’s sisters’ presence near the Corps Commander House on May 9.

The Information Minister expressed concern over individuals attempting to use the jail for political agendas, saying, “Even while sitting inside the jail, some people are talking about overthrowing the state and trying to harm the country for personal interests.”

Both ministers stressed that while the PTI founder has been given all facilities, any violation of law will result in immediate restrictions on meetings. “To maintain law and order outside Adiala Jail, the state will act with an iron hand to end the daily spectacle,” Atta Tarar added.

Addressing speculation regarding the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar clarified that the President will appoint the CDF on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. He emphasized that whoever is appointed as Army Chief will simultaneously hold the post of CDF and urged the public to avoid creating unnecessary speculation.
