POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday received a telephone call from Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, who appreciated the recent reduction in electricity prices and urged Pakistan to play a more proactive role in support of Palestinians facing Israeli aggression in Gaza.
According to official sources, Hafiz Naeem thanked the Prime Minister for prioritising public relief, especially amid economic challenges. He welcomed the reduction in electricity tariffs but emphasized that “there is still room for more relief” and called for the review of agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to further ease the burden on consumers.
In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said, “Despite the difficulties, I gave top priority to public relief and will continue this mission for Pakistan’s development.” He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding relief measures for both domestic and industrial sectors.
The conversation also touched on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, with both leaders expressing concern over the continued silence of international powers on Israeli atrocities.
PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s clear and firm stance in support of the oppressed Palestinian people, stating that the country will raise its voice against Zionist oppression at every international forum.
On his official social media account, Hafiz Naeem also shared details of the call, stating, “Pakistan should play an active and effective role in favour of the oppressed Palestinian people.”
