POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

The central leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is facing growing internal discord as differences continue to intensify among top party members. PTI Member of the National Assembly Shahram Khan Tarakai has openly demanded an investigation into a controversial statement made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Speaking to media on Saturday, Shahram Tarakai expressed serious concern over the internal turmoil, warning that such statements could damage the larger movement led by PTI's jailed founder, Imran Khan.
“Our priority should be the release of the party founder and other innocent imprisoned workers,” Tarakai emphasized. “The Chief Minister must concentrate his energy on ensuring law and order and promoting good governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of fanning internal conspiracies.”
His remarks come in response to accusations made by CM Gandapur, who claimed on Friday that certain PTI leaders were conspiring against the party from within — sparking fresh controversy and revealing the extent of internal divisions.
Meanwhile, the party’s internal accountability committee is also under the spotlight. Former KP Finance Minister Taimur Jhagra has publicly shared a questionnaire sent to him by the committee on social media. The document pertains to allegations of embezzlement and irregularities during his tenure in the finance and health departments.
In a significant development, the accountability committee has decided to seek formal permission from party founder Imran Khan to launch a full-scale investigation into the allegations against Taimur Jhagra. A committee spokesperson confirmed that as soon as approval is granted, investigations into alleged corruption during Jhagra’s ministerial tenure will begin.
The back-to-back revelations have not only exposed widening rifts within PTI’s central and provincial leadership but have also shifted focus from the party’s core agenda — the legal battle for Imran Khan’s release and mobilization of party workers.
Political analysts suggest that continued infighting, if not curbed, could severely undermine PTI’s organizational strength, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where it has traditionally held strong ground.
As the party navigates these turbulent waters, all eyes are now on how the central leadership — and particularly Imran Khan — addresses these growing concerns and whether unity can be restored in PTI’s ranks ahead of crucial political developments.
