Heavy Rain Forecast for Karachi and Sindh as Monsoon Currents Strengthen

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast another spell of rain and thunderstorms across Karachi, Hyderabad, and other parts of Sindh through June 29, following Thursday’s widespread showers that ended a prolonged dry spell and brought relief from the scorching heat.

According to the Met Office, strong monsoon currents are now penetrating Sindh, prompting intermittent thunderstorms and moderate to isolated heavy rainfall in major cities and districts.

🔶 Cities Under Rain Alert:

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in:

  • Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jacobabad, Tharparker
  • And other districts including Jamshoro, Ghotki, Kashmore, Umerkot, Tando Allahyar, and Tando Muhammad Khan.

🌧️ Karachi Rain Forecast (June 28–29):

  • Friday (June 28): Intermittent rain and thunderstorms expected; moderate to isolated heavy falls likely. Max temperature: 32–34 °C, humidity 78%.
  • Saturday (June 29): Similar pattern continues with max temperatures between 31–33 °C, humidity up to 80%.
  • Sunday (June 30): Partly cloudy with chances of rain. Temperatures between 31–33 °C, humidity up to 85%.

⚠️ Urban Flooding & Risk Advisory:

The PMD has warned of:

  • Urban flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas
  • Damage to weak infrastructure (electric poles, solar panels, vehicles)
  • Disruptions in daily routines and possible traffic hazards

All municipal authorities have been urged to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor travel, secure loose objects, and stay updated through official weather advisories.

🌡️ Rainfall & Temperature Stats (June 27):

Karachi experienced its first monsoon rain of the season Thursday evening. The recorded rainfall and current temperatures across key areas include:

  • Gulshan-e-Hadeed: 17mm
  • University Road: 13.4mm
  • PAF Faisal Base: 12mm
  • Airport Old Area: 9.3mm
  • Korangi & North Karachi: 8.4mm
  • DHA Phase 2: 7.8mm
  • Kemari: 6mm
  • Jinnah Terminal: 5.2mm
  • Surjani Town: 4.5mm
  • PAF Masroor: 2mm

The rain also caused a noticeable drop in temperature:

  • Minimum temperatures on Friday:
    • Gulistan-e-Jauhar: 26.3 °C
    • Bin Qasim: 26 °C
    • Shahrah-e-Faisal: 27.5 °C
    • Jinnah Terminal: 28.1 °C
    • Mauripur: 28 °C

Farmers across Sindh have been advised to manage irrigation and crop planning in line with the rainfall forecast to avoid potential losses.

The Met Office and emergency departments remain on standby, and the public is urged to report any emergencies or waterlogging incidents to relevant authorities.
