POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has called upon PTI leaders, ticket holders, and the public to actively participate in the upcoming protest on November 24, terming it a "decisive moment" for Pakistan’s future.
In a statement shared on his X account, Khan emphasized that those unable to join should disassociate themselves from the party. He warned, "The nation will not accept excuses at such a critical time."
The protest aims to challenge the alleged rigging of the February 8 elections, unjust arrests, and the passage of the 26th amendment, which Khan claims consolidates power in a dictatorial regime. He described the event as a “golden opportunity to secure genuine freedom for Pakistan” and invited the entire nation to join.
Khan highlighted issues undermining democracy, including restricted media freedom, internet disruptions causing financial losses, and the erosion of fundamental democratic rights. He also decried the treatment of PTI workers, citing enforced disappearances and violence.
The PTI founder reiterated his openness to negotiations but maintained that the responsibility lies with those in power.
Adding pressure to party members, Bushra Bibi, Khan’s spouse, linked the allocation of tickets for the next general elections to the leaders’ performance during the protest.
Meanwhile, Islamabad police have sought extensive anti-riot resources, including personnel, teargas, and containers, to manage the situation. Security plans under discussion aim to protect public property and ensure order during what is expected to be an indefinite sit-in.
With the protest just days away, tensions are high as PTI mobilizes support for what it deems a pivotal movement in Pakistan's democratic struggle.
