Imran Khan Refuses to Contest ‘Pre-Determined’ By-Elections: Salman Akram Raja

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has announced that party founder Imran Khan will not contest upcoming by-elections, claiming the results have already been predetermined.

Speaking on Geo News’ program Capital Talk, Raja said Imran Khan has directed the party to resign from all standing committees and not participate in by-polls that lack transparency. “Imran Khan has decided that we will not contest elections whose results have been decided in advance. We have also stepped down from parliamentary committees as we refuse to be part of this deception and joke,” Raja remarked.

Quoting Khan, he said the PTI founder believes that true power lies in “spiritual and moral strength,” while “physical power” is the lowest form of authority.

Raja, who is also Khan’s legal counsel, expressed frustration over restricted access to his client. “For the past 3–4 months, even Imran Khan’s family has not been allowed to meet him. I had legal matters to discuss with him, but our scheduled meeting was postponed at the last minute,” he said.

The PTI leader criticized ongoing police raids and arrests of party members, stating that such actions expose the government’s unwillingness to reduce political tensions. “This is a system based on lies. Will these by-elections be conducted without Form 47? The truth is that the only law operating in the country is the law of coercion,” Raja asserted.

Addressing the ongoing flood crisis, Raja urged that the natural disaster devastating parts of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, requires a united response. However, he lamented that political polarization continues because the government “is not serious about reconciliation.”

The announcement marks yet another phase of PTI’s resistance strategy, as the party doubles down on its stance against what it calls a manipulated electoral process.
