Islamabad High Court Gives IG Islamabad Until September 10 to Recover Missing Citizen Faizan Usman

The Islamabad High Court has given Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi until September 10 to recover missing citizen Faizan Usman. The court's decision came after Faizan Usman was not produced in court despite earlier orders, leading to heightened scrutiny of the investigation's progress.

During the hearing, Justice Babar Sattar expressed frustration over the ongoing delay in locating Faizan Usman, who has been missing since August. The court had previously ordered his recovery, but as of the latest hearing, there were no substantial updates on his whereabouts.

IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi appeared in court and provided an update on the investigation. Rizvi revealed that initial footage indicated Faizan’s location was in Islamabad, but later footage showed him in Lahore. He explained that while some vehicles were clearly visible in the footage, the identities of the individuals involved remained unclear due to masked appearances.

Rizvi reported that the police had requested assistance from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense regarding vehicle information and had sought help from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to track Faizan’s mobile phone through its IMEI number. However, no concrete progress had been made.

Justice Babar Sattar inquired whether the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had been contacted, given allegations that Faizan may have been picked up by the agency. Rizvi responded that the Ministry of Defense had been contacted, but Justice Sattar emphasized that the ISI operates directly under the Prime Minister's office, not the Ministry of Defense.

The judge remarked on the apparent ease with which individuals are being picked up, stressing that it is the police’s responsibility to protect citizens. He expressed concern that police inefficiency is leading to cases being brought to court, highlighting the lack of accountability and transparency in the matter.

Justice Sattar granted IG Islamabad an extension until Tuesday, September 10, to present a final report on the case. The court also advised the police to seek assistance if needed to expedite the recovery process.

The hearing was adjourned with a strong directive for timely action, underscoring the court's commitment to resolving the issue of Faizan Usman’s disappearance and ensuring accountability in the investigation.
