Islamabad High Court Reserves Verdict on Petition to Bar Judge Nasir Javed Rana

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its verdict after hearing a petition seeking to prevent Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who delivered the verdict in the £190 million case, from performing judicial duties.

Chief Justice of the IHC, Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar, stated that arguments have been thoroughly heard and that an appropriate order will be issued in due course.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice noted that matters concerning Sessions Court judges are typically referred to the High Court inspection team. He remarked that there appeared to be no illegal aspect in the notification being challenged by the petitioner.

Justice Dogar also referenced past Supreme Court observations against Judge Rana in 2004, noting that the administrative committee of the Lahore High Court had subsequently reinstated him. The Chief Justice suggested that if there were further objections, the petitioner could approach the Lahore High Court.

Petitioner’s lawyer Riaz Hanif Rahi highlighted that the petition was filed on November 7 and expressed concern over the judge’s use of expensive cars, urging the court to scrutinize such matters. The lawyer even referenced an Indian film, Ek Din Ka CM, emphasizing that the court should fully exercise its judicial authority.

The IHC will announce its verdict on the matter in due course.
