Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Salman Akram Raja, on Tuesday stated that the party has not made a final decision regarding a potential boycott of the Constitutional Court, emphasizing that consultations are ongoing.
Speaking to reporters during his appearance before the court, Raja reiterated that PTI does not fully accept the Constitutional Court’s authority and has filed an application concerning the alleged solitary confinement of PTI founder Imran Khan. He added that the decision to officially appear before the court remains pending.
During the hearing of cases related to electoral disputes and the formation of tribunals in the Federal Constitutional Court, Raja appeared in person. His lawyer, Advocate Sameer Khosa, raised objections regarding the autonomy and status of the court. Khosa informed Raja of his opinion on the matter, leaving the decision of whether to continue representing him up to his client.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice Aamir Farooq, acknowledged the right to raise legal objections. Questions were also raised regarding the formation of the bench, including whether a smaller bench of the Federal Constitutional Court can hear an appeal against a decision of a larger bench of the Supreme Court.
The court issued notices to all parties involved and adjourned the hearing pending further arguments.
This development adds to the ongoing debate over the Constitutional Court’s authority and PTI’s legal strategy regarding both electoral disputes and the treatment of its founder.
