The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has officially closed its inquiry against former WAPDA Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Muzammil Hussain in connection with alleged misappropriation during the Tarbela Dam expansion project.
The inquiry, which began in 2021 following a complaint alleging misappropriation of $753 million, spanned four years. NAB officials have confirmed that the investigation team recommended closing the inquiry after finding insufficient evidence to pursue the matter.
Following the team’s recommendation, NAB Chairman Lt. Gen. (retd) Nazir Butt issued the order to formally close the inquiry.
Lt. Gen. (retd) Muzammil Hussain, speaking to the Hum News Investigation Team, welcomed the decision, stating that he had fully cooperated with NAB and that all allegations were unfounded. “The truth has won,” he remarked.
The closure of this high-profile inquiry brings an end to a long-standing investigation into one of Pakistan’s largest infrastructure projects, the Tarbela Dam expansion.
