The Judicial Commission has approved the permanent appointment of six additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), while extending the tenure of four other judges by six months.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Judicial Commission held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, convened to consider the status of 10 additional judges of the Peshawar High Court.
According to sources, the commission unanimously approved the permanent appointment of Additional Judge Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Mudassar Amir, Justice Muhammad Tariq Afridi and Justice Abdul Fayaz. In addition, Additional Judge Justice Islahuddin and Additional Judge Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah were also approved to be made permanent judges of the PHC.
Meanwhile, the tenure of Additional Judge Justice Inamullah Khan, Justice Farah Jamshed, Justice Sabitullah and Justice Aurangzeb was extended by six months.
The meeting also considered the permanent appointment of Justice Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Justice Abdul Fayaz and Justice Farah Jamshed, as part of the overall review of additional judges’ performance.
Sources further revealed that PTI members Barrister Ali Zafar and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan did not attend the Judicial Commission meeting. Additionally, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi was also absent from the session.
The approvals mark a significant development in strengthening the judicial capacity of the Peshawar High Court amid a growing backlog of cases.
