Justice Mansoor Ali Shah: No Fear of Reference if Nothing Wrong

Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has responded to recent speculations regarding a possible judicial reference, asserting that if no wrongdoing has been committed, there is no reason to fear.

Speaking informally with journalists after the oath-taking ceremony of new Supreme Court judges, Justice Shah addressed various questions, including concerns about judicial performance and the rumored reference.

“The reference will be seen when it comes. If nothing wrong has been done, then why should there be fear of the reference?” Justice Shah stated firmly. He emphasized that he holds no personal grievances against anyone and maintains cordial relations with his fellow judges.

While discussing judicial performance, Justice Shah dismissed claims that judges were not working efficiently. “Look at the rate of disposal of cases. Check how many judgments have been published in law books. The records are available on the Supreme Court’s website,” he said.

The remarks came after Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah suggested that the conduct of two senior Supreme Court judges warranted a possible reference. However, Senator Irfan Siddiqui later clarified that the government had no intention of pursuing such a reference.

Meanwhile, Justice Jamal Mandokhel, when asked about a letter allegedly sent by the Chief Justice from the PTI founder to the Constitutional Committee, stated, “I have not received any letter. We will consider it if it comes, but the committee has not met yet.”

The informal discussion highlighted the ongoing tensions within Pakistan’s judiciary and the political narratives surrounding it.
